Scarcity: Motorists Urged To Take Precaution While Minimising Fuel Consumption

As the fuel scarcity bites harder across the country, commercial motorists have been warned against steps they take in a bid to minimize the fuel consumption of their vehicles which could lead to loss of lives.

The Executive Secretary, Office Of Transportation, Engr. Bilal Adiat gave the warning while speaking during a popular radio program tagged “Aabo loju popo” monitored on OSBC radio on Wednesday, in Osogbo.

He said because petrol is scarce and expensive, hence commercial motorists have been found to improvise ways of reducing the fuel consumption of their vehicles so as to maximize profit.

Engr. Bilal said most of the steps taken by the commercial drivers are against the mechanical set-up of the vehicles which could lead to inferno and loss of lives and properties.

He warned motorists to desist from carrying extra gallons of fuel in their vehicles because of the fuel scarcity as, it has been proven, that such actions could provoke fire outbreaks on the highway.

The Executive Secretary also used the occasion to warn commercial motorcycle operators to desist from over filling their tanks, saying the tanks may be leaky at the top level without notice and could lead to fire disaster.

In his words, “We all know that the current fuel situation is a tough one for everybody but that does not mean we should put our lives and that of others at risk because of the situation.

“Commercial drivers in situations like this are fond of coming up with different tricks on their vehicles in a bid to minimize fuel consumption of the vehicles. They must realize that all of the means or short cut they adopt to reduce fuel consumption of their vehicles are dangerous and can lead to fire outbreak. They are advised to stop it in their own interest and that of others”, Engr. Bilal stated.
