S’Court Fixes April 22 For Hearing Of Turaki-Led PDP Leadership Appeals
The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of two appeals filed by the Kabiru Turaki-led leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the March 9 judgments of the Court of Appeal over issues surrounding the party’s national convention and internal leadership dispute.
The Supreme Court fixed the date on Tuesday after a five-member panel of justices led by Justice Mohammed Garba sat on the matter.
The apex court granted an accelerated hearing for the appeals.
It also approved departure from its usual rules and shortened the time allowed for respondents to file their briefs.
The court ordered the respondents to file their briefs within five days.
It further directed the appellants to file their reply briefs within two days, where necessary.
The matter was adjourned till April 22 for hearing of the two appeals.
The ruling followed two motions on notice filed by the appellants and moved by their counsel, Chris Uche (SAN) and Paul Erokoro (SAN).
The appeals challenge two March 9 judgments which affirmed earlier Federal High Court decisions in Abuja.
The Federal High Court had restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from holding its national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025 until it complied with relevant statutory provisions, including the Electoral Act and the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).
The judgments were delivered last year by Justices James Omotosho and Peter Lifu in separate suits filed by aggrieved PDP members, including former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido.
Tuesday’s proceedings at the Supreme Court were attended by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Kabiru Turaki, former Niger State Governor, Aliyu Babangida, former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, and Taufeek Arapaja.
