S’Court Ruling: Osun ADC Guber Candidate Knocks INEC, Says Party Stronger
The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State, Dr. Najeem Salaam, on Thursday welcomed the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, which vacated an earlier order directing the party to maintain the status quo ante bellum.
Salaam, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, described the verdict as a reaffirmation of the true position of the law and a timely intervention in defence of constitutional order.
In a statement issued by the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Segun Olanibi, the candidate commended the panel of justices led by Mohammed Lawal Garba for what he termed courage and clarity in setting aside the earlier decision of the lower court.
He said the ruling further underscored the role of the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and a critical pillar in sustaining democracy.
According to Salaam, the apex court, by its decision, has safeguarded Nigeria’s democracy from what he described as manipulation and political manoeuvres aimed at weakening opposition parties.
The statement said, “The ruling exposes the overreach and questionable conduct of both the ruling party and the Independent National Electoral Commission in handling matters relating to the ADC. The removal of our party leadership names from INEC’s portal, under the guise of compliance with a flawed judgment, was reckless and unacceptable.
“The ADC remains strong, united and more determined than ever to win the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.
“Our party is not only stable but also the party to beat, given its growing acceptance among the people. No amount of political scheming or institutional intimidation will diminish our resolve or that of our supporters.
“While others, including the All Progressives Congress and the Accord Party, rely on coercion and manipulation, the ADC stands firmly on credibility, vision and the trust of the electorate.
“We urge the people of Osun State to remain steadfast, reject inducement and stand with the ADC in the collective quest to restore integrity, justice and true leadership in the state,” Salaam noted.
