The National Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party, led by Chief Wole Adesina, has condemned a coalition of aggrieved politicians allegedly plotting to remove President Bola Tinubu without offering a clear alternative vision for the country.

The faction raised concern over what it described as two disturbing developments threatening the unity and integrity of the party.

In a statement on Monday, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Alfa Mohammed, said, “The influx of some aggrieved politicians in a desperate coalition to ‘send President Bola Ahmed Tinubu back to Lagos’ without showcasing any clear-cut alternative agenda for Nigeria’s transformation.

“The party is not for sale or lease to any group, and will not be part of any anti-government plots or coalition that lacks a clear alternative agenda for Nigeria’s transformation.”

The faction stressed that while it remains committed to holding the federal government accountable through constructive engagement, it would not align with any group working to derail the current administration or undermine the 2023 electoral mandate.

It also urged SDP leaders across the country to resist any attempts to usurp their positions and report such incidents to the appropriate authorities.

The statement further warned against the illegal replacement of constitutionally recognised SDP executives in the states, alleging collaboration between the coalition group and a rival party faction.

The Adesina-led NEC likened the situation to the 2019 crisis when defectors from the PDP, led by Prof. Jerry Gana, attempted to hijack the party’s leadership — a move that led to the resignation of the then National Chairman, Olu Falae, and triggered ongoing legal battles.

The faction encouraged genuine new members to join the party while reaffirming its commitment to reclaiming full recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
