Security Agents Urged To Clampdown On Cultism In Osun

By Shina Abubakar

Against the backdrop of increasing activities of cultists in some part of Osun, an indigene of the state, Mr. Gbolagade Odepeju, has urged police and other security agencies to deepen efforts in tackling the menace.

Gbolagade who stated this in a chat with our reporter in Osogbo noted that nothing could flourish in a society where there is no peace, appealing to security operatives in the state to stand up to the challenge, and bring the menace to an absolute end.

Recalling many of the alleged atrocities of the dreaded group, Gbolagade stated that some members of the Aiye confraternity in 2015 descended on his friend, Mr. Olaniyan Ramoni, a commercial driver and killed his nephew; Kareem Jamiu.

According to him, members of the group took advantage of Olaniyan’s predicament when he was involved in a fatal  accident which consumed a member of the group.

The deceased, Gbolagade added, under the influence of alcohol drove a motorcycle recklessly and rammed into Olaniyan’s vehicle. He added that the deceased passed on afterwards.

He added: “After a protracted crisis, relatives of the okada riders agreed to settle the matter out of court and got a whopping sum of N200,000 from Olaniyan only for him to be tracked down by the cultists, who stormed his house in his absence, shot his nephew dead and vowed to bring him down too.

“The guys are really cruel and demonic. To them, forgiveness is a sin. They trailed one of my friends, Olaniyan Ramoni, killed his nephew and vowed to kill him over a fatal accident involving one of them, even when it was obvious that Olaniyan was not at fault.”

“The government should tackle the dreadful group of visionless miscreants tormenting people in the state. The security operatives too must stand up to the challenges and safe the people from evil acts of the group.”
