Security Presence Meant To Curb Disruption, Says Organisers Of Osun Hunger Protest

The organisers of the #EndBadGovernance protest in Osun State, Coalition of Concern Nigerian Citizens, has declared that the presence of security vehicles patrolling Osogbo is to curb miscreants from hijacking and causing disruption to the planned nationwide protest.

Osun Defender reports that there was heavy presence of security personnels across Osogbo, Osun state capital in the early hours of Wednesday, 31 July, 2024.

The security operatives consisting of men from the Nigerian Army and operatives of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), were seen patrolling Osogbo metropolis.

Reacting to the development, Spokesperson for CCNC Segun Oyewale, in a statement obtained by Osun Defender reassured residents that the protest would commence tomorrow Thursday, August 1-10 as planned.

Oyewale noted that the security presence “is a routine measure aimed at ensuring that our peaceful protest is not hijacked or marred by violence”.

“We, the Coalition of Concern Nigerian Citizens, the organizer of the #EndBadGovernance protest wishes to address the general public that the #Endbadgovernance protest holds as scheduled tomorrow from *August 1-10* the increase presence of police vehicles patrolling around Osogbo is to curb some miscreants with intention to cause disruption.

“Our attention has been drawn to this development, and we want to reassure everyone that there is no cause for alarm. The presence of police officers is a routine measure aimed at ensuring that our peaceful protest is not hijacked or marred by violence. The police are doing that to maintain law and order, and we believe their presence will help safeguard our right to a peaceful demonstration.

“Equally, kindly disregard any information that the protest has been postponed ,the demonstration will hold as planned.

“We urge the good people of Osun to remain calm and not to be discouraged. Our commitment to a peaceful and orderly protest remains unwavering. We ask everyone to continue to conduct themselves peacefully,cooperate with law enforcement officers and come out massively without fear as nothing will discourage us,” the statement noted.
