The Senate on Wednesday observed a minute’s silence in honour of late Dr. Chike Akunyili said to have been murdered by gunmen in Onitsha, Anambra State on Tuesday.
The resolution of the Senate followed a Point of Order moved by Senator Uche Ekwunife, informing the Senate of the dastardly act.
Citing Order 43 of the Senate Standing Rules, Ekwunife lamented the gruesome killing of Dr Chike, the husband of ex-Director General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administrative Control (NAFDAC), late Professor Dora Akunyili.
Ekwunife urged the Inspector General of Police to step up action aimed at bringing an end to the menace of unknown gunmen now ravaging the South East region.
She also called on the Governors of the South East to do all that is necessary to safeguard lives and property in the region.
