Senate In Rowdy Session Over Motion On Social Intervention Programme

The Senate has been thrown into a rowdy session following a motion moved by Senator Biodun Olujimi from Ekiti state alleging that the Federal Government’s Social Intervention Programme (SIF) is being used for political reasons.

Raising the motion of urgent national importance, Senator Olujimi said the funds under the SIF were politically motivated.

She brandished a form on the floor allegedly from the SIF which she says is inscribed with “I stand with Buhari” and further alleges that there is a portion on the form where a person’s permanent voter card is to be attached.

“I have one of such forms where your BVN number, PVC number, gender and account details must be written.”

Her motion, however, elicited strong reactions from some lawmakers leading to a rowdy session.

The Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, insisted that the SIF is computer-based and transparent.

He criticised the Senator for turning it into a partisan issue.
