Senate Mace Theft: NASS To Restrict Public Access

The National Assembly has urged members of the public to bear with it on the security measures that will be deployed to block the loopholes in the security architecture of the National Assembly Complex.

The legislature has also begun an internal investigation into the invasion of the Senate and snatching of its mace by suspected thugs last Wednesday.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, after a prolonged closed-door session on Tuesday, said the security measures would restrict movements and access to the premises.

He announced that the Senate and the House of Representatives had resolved to form a joint committee that would probe into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Saraki also senators had also mandated a joint committee in the Senate to meet with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, on how to protect the building and its environs.
