Senator’s House Set Ablaze By Angry Mob
Senator Sha’aba Lafiagi representing Kwara North Senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate has lost his country home in the state after it was torched by angry mob.
According to reports, the incident occurred after soldiers in his convoy shot four people on the eve of the Local government elections in the state. Youths in Lafiagi township had reportedly blocked the culvert at Sodo in a peaceful protest asking that the Senator complete the long-abandoned culvert before the LGA elections on Saturday, November 18.
The report quoted eyewitnesses as saying that several people suffered injuries. In retaliation, the youths set the senator’s home ablaze. Residents were also said to have fled the town after more soldiers arrived and began shooting. Meanwhile, in a separate event, it was reported earlier that some senators have said that the preliminary investigation into embattled former pension boss Abdulraheed Maina’s case has shown that it may lead to a repeat of the episode of the sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal.
Lawal’s trouble started in the Senate when he was indicted in a grass cutting scandal and finally sacked last month by President Muhammadu Buhari. Senators who are probing Maina’s scandal said on Thursday, November 16 that three incriminating evidence have been received against the Attorney General of the Federation(AGF) and minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
