Amnesty International has berated President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the invasion of the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) on Monday.
In a post on its official X handle on Monday, Amnesty International described the invasion as disturbing and criticised Tinubu’s government for “going too far in his repressive attempts” against opposing voices.
“President Bola Tinubu is going too far in his government’s repressive efforts to gag dissenting voices,” the rights organisation said.
It also berated the secret police for its disregard for the rule of law by targeting activists and civil society organisations.
“SERAP stands for accountability against corruption. It is bizarre that the DSS — which should focus on protecting Nigeria — are shockingly acting without respect for the rule of law by consistently targeting civil society organisations and activists,” it stated.

SERAP had earlier announced the invasion of its Abuja office by the secret police, who also demanded to see its directors.
It said, “Officers from Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) are presently unlawfully occupying SERAP’s Abuja office, asking to see our directors.”
