Seven In Court Over Indian Hemp Possession

Seven young men have been brought before an Osogbo Magistrate court over alleged possession of Indian hemp.

The suspects are Oseni Segun, 22, Iliasu Garuba, 35, Morufu Iliasu, 30, Wale Adewuyi, 35, Afolabi Semiu, 39, Haruna Buhari, 20, and Nurudeen Kareem 36.

The charge sheet read stated that the accused persons attempted to steal at the area where they were caught thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the criminal code law of Osun state of Nigeria 2003.

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons unlawfully possessed some weeds suspected to be Indian hemp contrary to and punishable under section 430 of the state penal code of Osun state.

The accused persons committed the offence on October 21, 2017 at Orita sabo, Abaku and Ayetoro area.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the three count charges levelled against them.

The defense counsel, Mr. Okobe Najite prayed the court to grant his clients bail in the most liberal terms in line with section 36[5] of the 1999 constitution of the federation

Inspector Joshua Oladoye did not object to the bail of the defense counsel.

Fatimah Sodamade, the presiding magistrate admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in the same sum.

She then adjourned the case for mention till November 20, 2017.
