Seyi Tinubu Working To Take Over NANS Leadership Through The Backdoor – Stakeholder Alleges
Former Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Henry Okunomo, has accused Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, of interfering in the affairs of the student body and undermining its core values.
Okunomo, who made the allegation during an appearance on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television, claimed that Seyi Tinubu’s involvement has made NANS “porous” and diverted its attention from championing student welfare.
“With the involvement of the president’s son in the organisation, he has done everything possible to make the association porous,” Okunomo said.
“I am afraid we might not become anything useful in the organisation except for a few who have the association at heart.”
He questioned Seyi’s legitimacy in the student movement, saying only serving students or past leaders of the association should be considered stakeholders.
“What is his interest in NANS? He wasn’t a stakeholder, he didn’t serve. The only thing that qualifies you is if you have served and are a student in Nigeria. If you don’t meet these criteria, you can’t call yourself a stakeholder,” he added.
Okunomo also accused Seyi Tinubu of using his influence to intimidate key individuals in the association, thereby threatening its independence and focus.
His remarks came after newly elected NANS President, Comrade Atiku Abubakar Isah, alleged that Seyi Tinubu disrupted his inauguration in Abuja by sending thugs to lock the venue and threatening him at his hotel.
In response, Seyi Tinubu dismissed the allegations as false and defamatory.
“Enough is enough with these fake stories and defamation of my character,” he wrote on Instagram, attaching a screenshot of the report and labelling it “fake news.”
Sources close to Seyi Tinubu hinted that legal action may be taken if the allegations persist.
