The Local Government Projects Monitoring Team (LGPMT) set up by the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, has commended the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola for his development priority of local government areas of the state.
The team led by Engineer Kayode Adegbayo visited the Governor on Thursday at the Government House, Oke-Fia, Osogbo.
The team particularly commended the state of Osun for deviating from what it referred to as ‘common practice of not making the local governments functional’ by some state governments of the federation.
He however lamented abandonment over the years of local government system in some states of the federation.
“Life has become more difficult at the grassroot areas because there are no amenities and because most governments in some states have diverted attention away from the grassroots, and they have rendered the grassroots most vulnerable”, the team leader said.
He further said: “This has culminated into some of the challenges we have, particularly the high level of insecurity.
“We believe that if the grassroot areas are being given attention, most of these youths would have remained in the grassroot areas and they would have been more useful to themselves and the society”.
In his further commendations, Engr. Adegbayo said the quality and commitment met when his team went round the local council areas showed the kind of attention that the Governor has given to grassroot governance in the state.
In his reaction, Governor Oyetola, in return, extolled what he referred to as “the novelty” of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapher for setting up a quality assurance team as a useful feedback mechanism.
“I congratulate you for being a wonderful team that has been so objective in your analysis”, the Governor said.
