Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has faulted the decision of the Kano State Government to pay families of athletes who died while representing the state One Million Naira each.

The former lawmaker described the gesture as inadequate compensation.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that 22 athletes from the state who were returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, died in an auto crash.

After the incident on Saturday, the Kano State Government announced a donation of a million naira each to the families.

However, in a post on X, Sani described the amount as insufficient and unbefitting, especially considering the fact that the athletes died while in active service to the state.

“One million for each of the deceased athletes is not enough. Kano is rich enough to do more than that. The deceased died in active service,” the former lawmaker posted on Saturday.
