The senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District Shehu Sani has tagged the alleged letter authorised by President Muhammadu Buhari to punish disloyal members of his ruling All Progressives Congress as an ‘executive lie’.
Sani also applauded Buhari for clearing the air and held firm he never believed Buhari would give such directions.
“Thank you President Buhari for clearing the air on the calumnious memo; Even though I never believed that the President can ‘Direct’ a Governor to “recall a disloyal Senator”.Another executive lie bursted.” Sani said in a tweet on Sunday.
This is coming after Buhari’s media aide Garba Shehu Sunday in a statement said the president never gave the authorisation to discipline Senator Sani or any other member.
“The Presidency wishes to distance President Buhari from a letter currently in circulation, which alleges that the President had authorized a Governor or anyone else for that matter to “deal with traitors and disloyal members of APC, especially Senator Shehu Sani.”
The letter, which was dated October 2, allegedly authored by Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai listed ‘compendium’ of sins committed by Senator Shehu Sani against Buhari.
“Your Excellency will recall that earlier this year, you directed me to initiate processes to recall Shehu Sani from the Senate to punish his repeated acts of contempt and disloyalty,” the letter said in part.
This again reflects the deep-rooted animosity between the Governor and Sani which can be dated to 2015 after their inauguration.
In August, Sani alongside Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi was accused of working against the progress of the party and the state in connivance. The duo was consequently suspended by the Kaduna state chapter on the APC.
While Hunkuyi dumped the party to the People’s Democratic Party, Sani remained in APC.
The decision by the APC to clear Sani as its only candidate to contest the Kaduna Central senatorial seat in 2019 may not be unconnected to an alleged deal reached to prevent him from dumping the ruling party at a time when it was hit by a gale of defection.
The decision was not well received by the governor who did not see the senator as an ally. The Kaduna APC on Saturday conducted primaries for the senatorial ticket. That election was won by Uba Sani, an aide to El-Rufai.
Until now, the national body of the party is yet to react to the election.
