A presidential delegation led by Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in London on Monday to begin the process of repatriating the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday afternoon after a prolonged illness.

The high-level team, dispatched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, includes Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

They were received at the airport by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), confirmed the delegation’s arrival in a brief update.

President Tinubu, who announced Buhari’s passing on Sunday, directed Shettima to personally lead the mission to ensure a dignified return of the late leader’s body.

The President also ordered all national flags to fly at half-mast in mourning.

Buhari, Nigeria’s former military Head of State (1984–1985) and later a democratically elected President (2015–2023), was widely revered for his stance on discipline, patriotism, and integrity.

Preparations are ongoing for the return of his body to Nigeria, where he will be honoured with full state rites and national mourning ceremonies.
