Shiites Clash With Police In Abuja And Many Interesting Headlines For The Day

The clash between the Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria IMN and the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja on Monday during a protest for the release of the IMN Leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky detained by the Federal Government in 2015 which some reports say led to the death of one person takes the centre stage today in Most Nigerian National Newspapers.

The GUARDIAN, PUNCH and VANGUARD used it as their lead story. The papers report that Scores of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria were injured on Monday in Abuja during a clash with policemen at the Maitama area of the city. It was gathered that the police arrested about 115 Shiite members who were protesting against the continued incarceration of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakyzaky, by the Federal Government.

The protesters had moved to the National Human Rights Commission when the police swooped on them and fired tear gas canisters at them to break up the protest. The Shiite members in turn, threw stones at the policemen, damaging many parked vehicles and injuring passersby and motorists.

DAILY SUN, NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, NEW TELEGRAPH and DAILY INDEPENDENT reports the same story of the sad incident that had the Rampaging Fulani Herdsmen killing 32 or more in Nasarawa and 9 policemen losing their lives. 4 of the Killer figures were also said to have gone with the shootout with the Nigerian Army in Benue.

And finally on The NATION, EFCC: N1.28b spent on cars for Secondus, others. The medium understands that Documents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), obtained by The Nation, yesterday showed that N1.28 billion was spent on acquiring exotic vehicles for him and two others. The others are one of his predecessors, Alhaji Adamu Muazu and Senator Albert Bassey.

A breakdown showed that Secondus got vehicles or gifts worth N310million-N472.5million; Mua’zu, N504, 500,000 and Bassey, N303m.
