South Korean President Banned From Leaving Country Amid Crisis
South Korea’s Ministry of Justice announced on Monday that President Yoon Suk Yeol has been prohibited from leaving the country.
This unprecedented move comes less than a week after Yoon triggered a national crisis by briefly imposing martial law.
On December 3, Yoon deployed special forces and helicopters to parliament in an attempt to enforce his controversial decree.
However, lawmakers resisted and forced him to withdraw the order.

Despite narrowly surviving an impeachment vote on December 7, public discontent remains high, with massive crowds braving freezing temperatures to demand his resignation.
Investigations into Yoon and his close associates have intensified, including a probe into alleged insurrection.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed that Yoon is now the first sitting South Korean president to face a travel ban.
In addition, former defense minister Kim Yong-hyun, who is currently detained, and former interior minister Lee Sang-min have also been banned from leaving the country for their involvement in last week’s events.
