Sowore Blasts Police As Cameraman Who Stole His AI Glasses Deactivates Facebook
Human rights activist and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed that justice will be served against the police cameraman who allegedly stole his AI-powered Ray-Ban Meta glasses during Monday’s #PoliceProtest at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), disclosed on Thursday that the cameraman, identified as Aku Victor Chiemerie, has deactivated his Facebook account.
He also revealed that the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who allegedly sent Chiemerie, has blocked him on Facebook.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore said, “Aku Victor Chiemerie, the Nigeria Police Force cameraman who stole my pair of Ray-Ban Meta AI-powered glasses during the historic #PoliceProtest on Monday, has now deactivated his Facebook account. He had been operating under the name ‘Vyktur McEntire Akunamatata.’ Before deactivation, several of his photos were captured and archived.”
He accused the police of attempting to cover up the incident but maintained that they would not escape accountability.
“Let it be known: the search for this national thief continues. No amount of hiding, deleting, or shielding will protect him from full accountability for his actions,” he stated.
Checks by SaharaReporters confirmed that the account bearing the name “Vyktur McEntire Akunamatata” has been taken down. Sowore added that Adejobi blocked him on Facebook to prevent him from tagging the police spokesperson in his posts about the stolen eyeglasses.
On Wednesday, Sowore revealed that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, confirmed the retrieval of the glasses but refused to release them, citing that they contain a built-in camera.
The protest, held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, was organised by Sowore and other activists alongside retired police officers to demand improved welfare and retirement benefits for Nigerian policemen.
The stolen eyeglasses are not only medical but also embedded with artificial intelligence technology and contain sensitive private data.
