Human rights activist and #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for celebrating his son’s graduation from Queen Mary University in London, UK.
Wike, a former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Education, shared the news on social media, on Tuesday, expressing joy over his son Jordan earning a Master of Laws (LLM) degree.
He wrote, “Happy to witness, alongside my wife, the graduation ceremony of our son, Jordan, who just earned a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree at the Queen Mary University of London, UK. As a father, I am happy for the progress Jordan is making in the pursuit of his career.”
However, Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 general elections, condemned Wike, questioning why he couldn’t build quality schools in Nigeria despite his years in public office.
He accused Wike of neglecting the education sector while serving as Rivers State Governor for eight years, Minister of Education for four years, and a two-term local government chairman.
Sowore stated, “You were governor for eight years in Rivers State, one of Nigeria’s wealthiest states. You looted the state dry and couldn’t build a single school where your children could earn a Master’s in Law. What a crying shame!
“Wike could not build a school good enough to send his children to study, yet he sends them to UK schools with stolen funds.”
