Sowore Mocks IGP Over Failed Arraignment, Missing Court Order
Activist and Sahara Reporters’ publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has mocked Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun after a trial in Abuja ended without his arraignment and the police failed to present the court order they obtained.
Reacting on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Sowore wrote, “Today’s charade of a trial staged by illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun has ended without an arraignment; they couldn’t publish the court order they obtained to serve on Sahara Reporters! #RevolutionNow”.
The development comes a day after the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered six banks and fintech firms to release account details linked to Sowore and Sahara Reporters Media Foundation to the Inspector-General of Police.
The police had claimed in court that the accounts were being used for terrorism financing, money laundering and other fraudulent activities.
Sowore has consistently denied the allegations, insisting that the move is part of a wider plot to stifle dissent and silence critical journalism in Nigeria.
