Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the Nigeria Police Force, calling it an “irresponsible organisation” that routinely abuses power.

Sowore spoke when he regained freedom after four days in detention.

He accused the police of illegally enforcing a court order in which they had vested interest, saying, “If a court order is violated, you return to the same court—not take the law into your own hands.”

He also faulted the police for failing to serve any restraining order before his arrest, describing their actions as unlawful and politically motivated.

Responding to claims that his detention followed his criticism of the Inspector General of Police, Sowore insisted he was right, arguing that the justice system itself is useless when people are brutalised and denied lawyers.

Reaffirming his commitment to activism, Sowore said no amount of intimidation would silence him.

He vowed to challenge his detention in court, describing it as another attempt by the Tinubu administration to suppress dissent and erode civil liberties.
