Sports Commission DG Dismisses Claims Super Falcons Haven’t Received Bonuses
Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has dismissed reports that the Super Falcons have not received their tournament bonuses, saying almost all players have been paid.
Speaking on Arise News TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, Olopade said he personally confirmed the payments with team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and the Nigeria Football Federation.
“I have spoken to Ajibade directly and I have in my phone messages between her and Mallam Shehu Dikko, chairman of the Sports Commission, where she vehemently denied ever saying their bonuses have not been paid.
“I know authoritatively that all their bonuses, without going into figures, have been paid. Apart from one or two players whose accounts have issues with the CBN, all their monies are in their accounts,” he said.
Olopade stressed it was untrue to claim the bonuses were outstanding and urged people not to misrepresent Ajibade’s statements.
On President Bola Tinubu’s pledge of $100,000 and housing for the team, Olopade said arrangements were underway.
“A few days ago, Mallam Shehu Dikko was still talking to the Minister for Housing, and I sat down with the gentleman in charge of the Renewed Hope Homes. Work has already started on how they will get the apartments in record time.
“We are in a government that fulfils promises. When we tell athletes they will get something, they get it. We don’t play games with their remuneration or competitions. We say what we can do, and we do it,” he added.
