The Peoples Democratic Party in Atakunmosa West Local Government Area of Osun State has berated a former Special Adviser on Budget Matters during the administration of ex-Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Mr. Gbenga Abiola, over what it described as a false and stage-managed defection to the All Progressives Congress.

The party, in a statement signed by its Atakunmosa West chairman, Elder Farodoye Olubunmi, on Saturday, said Abiola ceased to be a member of the PDP as far back as 2010 and had since aligned himself with the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, which later became the APC.

According to the statement, Abiola, who was said to be a known associate and schoolmate of former governor Rauf Aregbesola, had retained his appointment and enjoyed unfettered access during the Aregbesola administration, participating actively in APC activities throughout the eight years of that regime.

“It is laughable and deceitful for someone who has not attended a single PDP meeting at unit, ward, local government or state level for over 15 years to now parade himself as a PDP defector. Gbenga Abiola has long been in the APC camp and his so-called defection is nothing but political comedy,” the party said.

The PDP accused the Osun APC of attempting to stage a phantom defection to create a false impression of relevance, adding that Abiola’s move was not accompanied by any follower or supporter, not even from his ward, unit or immediate family members.

“Our party remains strong, united and focused on delivering good governance under Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. No amount of propaganda or false defections will derail our resolve to return PDP to victory in 2026,” the statement concluded.
