Strengthen Security in Your Areas, Focus on Impactful Projects — Oyebanji Tells LG Chairmen
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has urged chairmen of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state to prioritise security and deepen community-based strategies to safeguard lives and property across their jurisdictions.
Oyebanji said effective grassroots security management remains vital to sustaining peace and supporting the socio-economic growth of the state.
He also charged the council bosses to prioritise the welfare of residents for improved service delivery, noting that placing citizens at the centre of governance would strengthen trust, enhance community engagement and ensure that development efforts have a meaningful impact.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti during a strategic meeting with LG and LCDA chairmen, the Governor said the foremost responsibility of government at all levels is the protection of citizens.
According to him, local councils — being the closest to the grassroots — must take ownership of emerging security challenges and respond promptly to threats within their communities.
He encouraged them to work closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and security agencies to build coordinated structures capable of identifying early warning signs and preventing security breaches.
Oyebanji also urged investment in intelligence gathering, as well as support for security operatives where necessary, to complement the state government’s ongoing efforts to maintain Ekiti’s status as one of the safest states in the country.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability, the Governor warned against wastage of public resources, stressing that funds allocated for development must be prudently utilised. He assured that his government will continue to back local councils in delivering efficient and impactful governance.
The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining peace statewide, promising continued policy support and resources to ensure that every community remains safe, stable and conducive for development.
