The lingering strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has not been suspended.

Stories and social media posts on Tuesday morning which suggested that the union has suspended the strike following a meeting with members of the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, said the union has not suspended the strike.

He described stories that his union had suspended the strike as “fake.”

Meanwhile, a source in the union confided in newsmen that there will be briefings at the various zones of the union and a subsequent meeting by the branches between today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday).

“They just left Abuja this morning, and some will be holding their Zonal meetings today and others will do it tomorrow,” the source said.

The source added that the National Executive Council of the union will then meet to decide on the suspension of the strike.

The Court of Appeal last Friday ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before continuing with its appeal against the judgement of the Industrial Court.

While ASUU has not immediately obeyed the court ruling, it has been in talks with the leadership of the House of Representatives, holding multiple meetings.
