The Joint Campus Committee of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in the State of Osun has berated some tertiary institutions in the state for commencing online classes for some selected students, describing the actions as inhumane and inconsiderate.
In a press statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the association, Comrade Michael Agbogunleri and Oluwafemi Ogunsakin, the group specifically chided the management of Osun State University for closing the institution’s portal for payment of tuition fees.
The group, in the statement made available to OSUN DEFENDER yesterday condemned the online class and the closure of the payment portal by the institutions, saying that it is an attempt to deny less-privileged students access to education.
“UNIOSUN, in reckless display of insensitivity to the plight of students, parents, guardians and in furtherance of its callous and despotic policies, kick-started e-learning for the eligible few ones who are lucky to have paid and affirming it will go ahead with online e-examination.
“Osun State College of Technology, Esa Oke has also begun e-learning for some of her students not also minding those who cannot afford to purchase data or possessing e-learning facilities (computer and Smartphone. This act is callous and inimical to the education advancement of the poor children”, the group said.
It urged the state government to persuade the institutions to reverse their decisions and be considerate in their academic policies.
The group called on the institutions to open and activate their school fees portal till when schools re-open, saying that most parents were trying to survive with their families as the Coronavirus pandemic continue to ravage the entire world.
