Students Kick As FEDOFFA Increases School Fees

Management of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State has increased the tuition fee of the institution for the 2018/2019 session.
The school fees for Higher National Diploma (HND) 1 and National Diploma (ND) 1 have been increased from N23,850 to N28,850; the fee for HND II and ND II increased from N16,550 to 21,550, while the fee for part term students would have maximum increase of N5000.
The new school fees was arrived at after a parley by the management of the institution and the student body, sequel to the announcement of increase of fees by the management, a member of SUG executive told Osun Defender Campus Review.
Earlier, the management had announced the increase in school for ND I and HND II from N23,850 to 33,200, and for ND II and HND II, it was increased from N16,550 N28,000.
This did not go well with the students, a situation that prompted a negotiation to arrive at a reasonable amount of hike in the fee.
The discussion was held with NUNS Officials, NANS representatives, SUG President and executive who decried the increase, just as they condemned poor funding of education and rejected any attempt to commercialise the education system.
Meanwhile, students of the institution have continued to condemn the increase in school fees, saying that such decision was inhuman and does not give consideration to children of the less-privileged.
One of the students who spoke on anonymity said, even the original school fees before the new regime was too higher for many of the students to pay, saying, the increase was only adding salt to injury.
He appealed to the management of the institution to consider its stand and give the children of the poor the opportunity to have their ways in accessing education.
Besides, the school management has also released the Second batch of the newly admitted students into ND full-time and released the first batch of the admission list of the ND part-time.
According to the management, October 19 is the deadline date for the payment of acceptance fee for the newly released list, saying students should try to meet up with the deadline to avoid termination of admission.
