Students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree have cried out for help due to the sudden increment in their tuition fees.

This is coming few weeks after the management of Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, released a memo notifying the students of about 40 per cent increment in their tuition fees.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered the OSPOLY management increased tuition of science-related courses, including that of Information and Communication Technology from N62,000 to N112,000.

The tuition fees of students in the faculties of Management and Financial Studies was increased by 83.3 per cent, going from N53,000 to N97,000.

It was learnt that the polytechnic students got to know the increment on their individual portal.

One of the students who prayed not to be named said: “We only got to know about the increment on the school portal. We are supposed to be informed about everything, not in this way that we are getting to know that our tuition fee has been increased at the point of payment.

“The economy is bad, a lot of people struggle to survive, and if you want to increase school fees, at least, you have to state the reasons and not this one that we are asking to pay double of our tuition fee”.

Reacting to the increment of the fee, the Spokesperson of the institution, Mr. Tope Abiola, told OSUN DEFENDER that the school management was reviewing the fees because of the prevailing economic situation in the country.

According to Abiola, returning students may not be affected by the increment.

He said: “We are in the process of reviewing the fees because of the prevailing economic situation in the country.

“The review may be for the newly admitted students into both the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma programs of the Institution, while the returning students in the ND 2 and HND 2 may not be affected”
