Students React As OSPOLY Increases Tuition Fee
Students of Osun State Polytechnic,Iree, have frowned against the increase in tuition fee announced by the institution’s management.
The management of the institution in a document sighted by Osun Defender on Thursday, announced the approved increases in fees for the regular programme for the 2023/24 academic session.
The document saw the increment of the school fee for Science, Technology and Engineering Students to N150,000 while Finance and Management Studies will now pay N147,500 for new students at an installment basis.
Reacting to the development, some students of the institution expressed their willingness to drop out of the institution if the decision is not reversed.
Some of them said: “Where we go see 150k as school fee, we go rather drop out”, “Iree will be the only state Polytechnic that will be paying 147k.” “Are they trying to kill us, what is this?”

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South West Zone D has called on the Osun State government and the management of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, to revisit their decision and find a l solution to the increased tuition.
A memo obtained from the Union’s PRO, Comrade Bamigboye Peter, the association described the increased tuition fee as an undue burden on students aspiring higher education.
The memo read in full: “The National Association of Nigerian Students Southwest Zone D expresses deep concern regarding the recent surge in tuition fees for both freshers and satellite students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. This unilateral decision has ignited dissatisfaction among the student community, given the substantial multiple increase over the previous fees.
“The leadership urgently calls upon the management of Osun State Polytechnic and the state government to revisit this decision. In the current economic climate of the country, where financial constraints are prevalent, such an abrupt increment places an undue burden on students aspiring to pursue higher education.”
“We understand the necessity of funding educational institutions; however, the sudden and significant rise in tuition fees is causing distress among students. This appeal aims to draw attention to the potential adverse effects on accessibility and inclusivity in education.”
“We implore the management and Osun State government to revisit their decision and find a balanced and equitable solution. It is crucial to consider the financial realities faced by students and their families, especially during these challenging times.”
“The National Association of Nigerian Students Southwest Zone D emphasizes the importance of education as a tool for national development. Hence, we believe that accessible and affordable education is a cornerstone for building a prosperous future.”
“We trust that the authorities will take prompt action to address this matter, ensuring that the pursuit of education remains a feasible and equitable endeavor for all students at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.”
Osun Defender reached out to the Media Relations Officer of the Polytechnic, Mr. Bayo Fadeji for his reaction on the matter but he did not respond to messages sent to him as at the time of filing this report.
