The Commissioner of Police in the State of Osun, Mr Olawale Olokode has disclosed that preliminary investigation into the attack on a family at Wasinmi village in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of the state is unconnected to clashes between farmers and herders.
In a statement, the Police Publicist, SP Yemisi Opalola said the commissioner after an on the spot assesment at the scene directed concrete investigation on the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.
OSUN DEFENDER reported how unknown gunmen, at the wee hours of Sunday, invaded Wasinmi village leaving six herders dead and one person injured.
Opalola noted that police operatives from Ikire Division and other law enforcement agencies were drafted to the scene to prevent further attacks on residents while the attackers escaped into the thin air.
The Police appealed to the people of the State, particularly residents of Ikire and its environs not to panic but collaborate with it by giving timely information that will assist in arresting the culprits.
Opalola quoted Olokode as reassuring them of the commitment of the Police to their safety, as adequate security measures have been emplaced to forestall future occurrences of such incident.
