Super Eagles Captain, Troost-Ekong Announces Retirement Few Weeks Before AFCON 2025
William Troost-Ekong, the captain of the Super Eagles has announced his international retirement.
Troost-Ekong, on Thursday, posted a video on social media and tagged it: “Honoured. Grateful. Forever a Super Eagles.
“Playing for Nigeria has been the greatest privilege of my life.
“The journey may end here, but my support never will.
“Here’s to the next chapter.”
His decision comes a few weeks before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Troost-Ekong’s decision to step aside comes as a surprise to many fans, especially as Eric Chelle included him in his 54-man provisional squad for the tournament.
The 32-year-old retires after earning 83 caps and playing in five major tournaments for Nigeria.
