Former presidential spokesman Doyin Okupe has stated that Nigerians would support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, allowing him to complete the maximum eight-year term set by the constitution.
Okupe claimed that the rotational presidency between the southern and northern regions, an unspoken agreement in Nigeria’s political landscape, would favor Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Okupe, while featuring on Channels TV Politics Today on Monday, pointed out that former President Muhammadu Buhari, who served from 2015 to 2023, completed his tenure despite not meeting expectations.

In contrast, Okupe believes that Tinubu, whom he claims “is doing well,” should also serve his full two terms.
“Nigerians will decide so. I am sure. Nigerians are reasonable, sensible people, not demanding too much from their leaders,” Okupe declared, expressing optimism about Tinubu’s popularity.
He suggested that if Tinubu manages to resolve key issues, such as power supply, fuel shortages, and food crises before the next election, public support would be overwhelming.
“If Bola Tinubu gives us light in 2027, and resolves this fuel crisis and this food crisis between now and that time, you’ll see that people will go on the streets and say it’s Bola or nobody,” Okupe said with confidence.
Reflecting on the nickname “T-Pain” given to Tinubu on social media, Okupe interpreted it as a positive term, implying that the “temporary pain” Nigerians are currently experiencing would ultimately lead to long-term improvements for the country.
He remarked, “T- Pain means temporary pain that will lead to an extensive, pleasant and something good for the nation.”
Okupe, who previously supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, reiterated his confidence that Tinubu’s administration would ultimately win public approval if key issues were addressed, setting the stage for a successful bid for a second term in 2027.
