Fire has razed a section of the Eleme Local Government Council secretariat in Rivers State.
The newly elected chairman of the local government, Brain Gokpa, was said to have arrived the came council secretariat accompanied by his councilors and supporters but discovered that a few of the buildings in the council had been set ablaze.
The fire was reportedly caused by an explosion from a device suspected to be dynamite.
In Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA protesters invaded the council headquarters in Omoku, not allowing the newly sworn-in chairman to resume office.

So far no arrests have been made and the police are yet to release any statement on the situation.
There is a palpable fear of a potential outbreak of violence in some councils of the state.
