Onaolapo, according to a post by Ilobu-Asake Vanguard on Facebook, was allegedly shot dead by an indigene of Ifon-Orolu.

The post noted that he was shot on his way to his farm located in the Oke Ekutu area, a boundary between the two communities.

In a video footage that accompanied the post, the dead body of the victim was seen in a car parked in front of the palace of Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye, with a large crowd wailing and mourning the deceased.

The mourners demanded immediate action from the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the security agents to de-escalate tension and prevent reprisal.

However, in a swift reaction, the Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union (IPU), denied involvement in the death of the farmer.

IPU in a statement signed by Prince Jide Akinyooye, described the report as malicious and false.

The body urges security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the farmer.

The statement reads in part, “The Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union (IPU) has been made aware of malicious propaganda circulating about the people of Ifon-Orolu Kingdom being responsible for the reported death of an Ilobu man. We strongly deny these allegations and condemn any actions that could lead to a breakdown in law and order.

“We commend the rapid response of the Osun State Government, led by His Excellency, Asiwaju Nurudeen Jackson Ademola Adeleke, and all security agencies for ensuring safety and protection in both Irepodun and Orolu State Constituency.

“The leadership of IPU and community leaders of Orolu Kingdom appreciate the exemplary leadership style of HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Ipadeola Akinyooye III, promoting peace in the area. We also acknowledge the fatherly relationship among traditional leaders in both Orolu/Irepodun State Constituency.

“We urge security agencies to investigate the allegations surrounding the reported killing and remind residents of Orolu Local Government that the prohibition on fireworks within Orolu Kingdom remains in force.”
