Members of the Oladunwo Compound of Ile-Ogbo, Ayedire local government area of Osun State on Tuesday protested what they described as the ‘unlawful’ installation of a new Odofin by the Olu of Ileogbo, Oba Abeeb Adetoyese Agbaje.

According to the protesters, the Odofin title, which was exclusively the right of the Oladunwo compound, was allegedly given by the monarch to someone from the Olujogun Compound.

OSUN DEFENDER gathered that the Odofin position became vacant following the demise of Pa Alabi who was from Oladunwo Compound.

In a video obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, the protesters who carried placards were seen protesting in front of the palace.

The protesters were heard saying the “Odofin title is not for sale”, warning against taking their birthright to another compound.

Speaking with OSUN DEFENDER, a community source said the protesters were angry because the Odofin title is for their family, adding that the Olujogun Compound already holds the Olukotun title.

But reacting through his spokesperson, Mubarak Akorede, in an interview with OSUN DEFENDER, the monarch said the Odofin title does not exclusively belong to the Oladunwo compound.

According to the monarch, the title belongs to both Oladunwo and Olujogun’s compounds, adding that Oladunwo’s compound had held the position for three consecutive times.

“Every title belongs to the king. Concerning the Odofin title, Oladunwo compound is not the sole owner of this title. The Olujogun compound is also entitled to the Odofin title. It is in the interest of fairness that Olu Ileogbo picked someone from Olujogun as Odofin.

“Oladunwo compound has held this title for three consecutive times. The Oladunwo compound has always been lucky whenever the position was vacant. But when the last Odofin died few weeks ago, the Olujogun people came to show interest but Kabiesi said the position is for the two compounds.

“The two compounds were invited to narrate their history. They both did. Oladunwo said they were given the title in 1947, while the Olujogun narrated how they were the first to hold the title of Odofin in Ileogbo in 1840.

“After listening to them, the palace came up with a declaration that the two compounds should be entitled to the position, and neither of the two families objected to it. But on Saturday when they were to sign the document, the Oladunwo compound declined to sign,” Akorede told OSUN DEFENDER.
