Terrorists Kill Imam, Abduct Over 100 in Borno
Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters have killed a mosque imam and abducted more than 100 residents, including women and children, in Ngoshe town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources said the attack occurred on Tuesday, shortly after residents broke their Ramadan fast.
The gunmen, reportedly heavily armed and arriving in large numbers, overran a military base in the area during the raid.
About nine soldiers are feared dead, though this has not been officially confirmed.
The attackers then moved into Ngoshe, killing the chief imam and abducting over 100 women and children, while several other residents sustained injuries.
Parts of the town were also set ablaze, forcing most residents to flee.
“Most of the people in Ngoshe have fled. The town is almost empty, and many of us have taken refuge in Pulka,” a source told Daily Trust, alleging that the attackers had help from someone within the community.
Operation Hadin Kai’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, has yet to comment on the incident.
