Ibrahim Chatta Clears the Air on AMVCA Absence
Veteran actor and producer Ibrahim Chatta has addressed his absence from the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), stating categorically that it wasn’t due to being overlooked but because he simply wasn’t interested. Speaking on the podcast “Curiosity Made Me Ask” with Isbaeu, Chatta explained that he did not submit any film for nomination.
“I am not interested in the AMVCA. Why should I be praying for something that I am not interested in?” he said. The renowned Yoruba-language film star emphasized that whenever he feels inclined, he’ll submit his work for assessment.
Chatta, known for his low-key lifestyle, also suggested that his introverted nature might have led to assumptions that he wouldn’t attend even if invited. “Maybe they think if they give me [an award], I won’t show up,” he added. He concluded by noting he already has several prestigious awards to his name, including the Nelson Mandela Award and Pink Award from Wole Soyinka.
