The Buzz: Trending Entertainment News
From heartfelt personal confessions to courtroom victories and controversies sparked by social media fame, the entertainment space has been buzzing with stories that have captured public attention.
Here is a round-up of the latest developments making waves across Nollywood, music and influencer culture.
Veteran Nollywood actor Akin Lewis has opened up about the emotional toll of his failed first marriage, describing its sudden end as one of the most painful experiences of his life. Speaking on the African A-List Podcast, the respected actor said he still does not understand why the union collapsed, even years after the separation.
Lewis explained that the breakup left him deeply shaken and burdened with unanswered questions, but ultimately reshaped his outlook on relationships and life. According to him, the experience pushed him towards personal growth and a stronger commitment to his craft. Reflecting on the ordeal, he said the pain made him stronger and more focused on his career.
The actor also weighed in on complaints by film producers about the fees charged by veteran actors, expressing disappointment over what he described as a lack of respect for years of dedication and hard work. Lewis stressed that after more than five decades in the industry, he should not be expected to work for less or feel fortunate simply to be cast.
Meanwhile, popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, is facing possible prosecution after a viral livestream allegedly showed him driving while distracted, an act that reportedly resulted in a road crash. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed plans to prosecute the influencer for reckless and distracted driving.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed condemned the incident, warning against a growing trend of unsafe road behaviour among celebrities and content creators. He emphasised that live streaming or using mobile phones while driving violates traffic laws and endangers lives. Mohammed directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to commence prosecution and called on entertainment industry bodies to promote responsible conduct among their members, stressing that fame does not place anyone above the law.
In the music scene, singer Bigiano has stirred conversation after claiming he wrote the hook of Davido’s breakout hit Dami Duro. Speaking in an interview with content creator Akin Abolade, the Shayo crooner said he contributed significantly to the song, which helped propel Davido to fame in 2011.
Bigiano explained that his long absence from the music scene was intentional, describing it as a sabbatical aimed at making a strong comeback. He also dismissed claims of financial struggles, insisting he is far from broke. Despite his assertion, Bigiano is not officially credited as a co-writer of Dami Duro, and Davido has yet to respond to the claim.
On the legal front, celebrity auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, has been discharged and acquitted of involvement in the death of his late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna. The ruling, delivered on Monday, December 15, 2025, brings an end to a three-year legal battle following accusations from Bimbo’s family.
Announcing the development on Instagram, IVD’s partner, Blessing CEO, celebrated the court decision and urged people to leave toxic relationships. Bimbo had died in October 2022 after sustaining injuries from a fire incident linked to domestic violence at their Lagos home. IVD was previously charged with involuntary manslaughter, granted bail, and later rearrested in August 2025 while travelling ahead of his planned wedding.
As these stories continue to spark debate and reflection, they underscore the complex intersections of fame, responsibility, personal struggles and justice within Nigeria’s entertainment landscape.
