Toyin Abraham’s Oversabi Aunty Grosses ₦1bn At Box Office
Filmmaker and actress Toyin Abraham has joined the elite league of Nollywood box office giants as her comedy film, Oversabi Aunty, crossed the ₦1 billion mark in cinema earnings.
The milestone was announced on Monday by FilmOne Entertainment, the film’s distributor, which disclosed that the movie grossed ₦1,017,201,953, making it the first Nollywood directorial debut to surpass the ₦1 billion mark and the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time.
“₦1 Billion+ at the box office. First Nollywood directorial debut to hit ₦1 Billion. 4th-highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time. West Africa, this is a full celebration!!!” FilmOne wrote on X.
Reacting, Abraham expressed gratitude to God, her fans and collaborators. “My first directorial debut on the big screen. Oversabi Aunty to the world and still showing in cinemas near you… I’m short of words,” she wrote on Instagram.
Released in December 2025, the film tells the story of an overzealous church usher whose constant interference in family matters leads to chaotic and comedic outcomes. It features a star-studded cast including Odunlade Adekola and Mike Ezuruonye.
Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes Hits ₦2.4bn, Sets New Record
Meanwhile, Funke Akindele continues her dominance at the box office as FilmOne Entertainment announced that her movie, Behind The Scenes, has grossed ₦2.4 billion.
“The Queen of Box Office for a reason!! Behind The Scenes hits a whopping ₦2.4bn,” FilmOne wrote, describing the film as the highest-grossing Nollywood movie of the year.
Earlier in January, the film became the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion mark, completing its cinema run at approximately ₦2.103 billion within a month and surpassing the record previously held by Everybody Loves Jenifa.
With this feat, Akindele has now become the only Nigerian filmmaker with three films grossing over ₦1 billion each, cementing her position as Nollywood’s most commercially successful filmmaker and Africa’s leading box office force from 2023 to 2025.

Nollywood actress Teniola Aladese has stirred debate after stating that women should live independently before marriage.
Speaking on That’s What She Said vodcast, Aladese argued that moving straight from a family home into marriage leaves many women unprepared.
“A lot of women just go from their family’s houses to their husband’s house… When you live alone before getting married, you get to know yourself,” she said.
According to her, lack of independence before marriage often results in shock, regret and emotional strain once married life begins.
Two Days After Gaining Admission, Streamer Peller Drops Out of University
Popular streamer Peller has gone viral after announcing that he dropped out of university just two days after resumption.
In a circulating voice note, the content creator said he could not cope with sitting in classrooms for hours without earning money. “I will now sit inside class for like seven hours and be writing and looking? And play play not making anything? God forbid,” he said.
Peller added that he plans to return to school much later in life, saying he needs a break from the classroom environment.
Carter Efe Thanks Davido, Shades Wizkid Over ‘Machala’ Snub
Content creator and comedian Carter Efe has publicly praised Davido for supporting his career while subtly shading Wizkid for allegedly ignoring him.
Speaking during a TikTok live session, Efe recounted how Davido’s appearance on his Twitch livestream in December 2025 helped boost his popularity. “Davido is a legend and a real supporter. He came to my livestream and changed the game for me,” he said.
However, Efe expressed disappointment that Wizkid failed to acknowledge his hit tribute song Machala, which topped charts in 2022. “Wizkid couldn’t even say ‘hi’ to me, even after I made a song for him that went number one,” he lamented.
