Students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have called out the school management over the overgrown bushes that have occupied some sections of the institution.

The students said the situation poses a serious threat to their safety and well-being.

According to the students, harmful animals, including snakes have been killed within the school premises.

The students noted that the presence of such wildlife not only endangers lives but also creates an atmosphere of fear and anxiety.

In a letter of appeal posted on Facebook, the students called for the clearing of all overgrown vegetation across the campus, especially near academic and administrative buildings.

The letter reads, “It has been observed that overgrown bushes have been left unattended in several areas of the campus, most notably in front of the Exams and Records office and other key academic buildings. This neglect has resulted in multiple sightings and confirmed killings of harmful animals, including snakes, within the school premises.

“This situation poses a serious threat to the safety and well-being of students, staff, and visitors. The presence of such wildlife not only endangers lives but also creates an atmosphere of fear and anxiety, particularly during examination periods when students are expected to focus and perform under pressure.

“We therefore humbly request that the following actions be taken with immediate effect: Clearing of all overgrown vegetation across the campus, especially near academic and administrative buildings.

“Implementation of a routine maintenance schedule to ensure continued environmental safety.Deployment of appropriate safety measures to monitor and prevent wildlife intrusion.”
