Three people died and one was injured in a lone-vehicle crash along the Railway Crossing on the Abeokuta–Lagos Expressway on Sunday, the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed.

The accident involved a white Volvo commercial truck with registration number AYE 977 XA. FRSC spokesperson Afolabi Odunsi said the crash occurred in the early hours and involved seven passengers – five men and two women.

Three victims died on the spot, one was injured, and the remaining three were rescued unhurt.

Odunsi attributed the crash to over-speeding, explaining that the driver lost control of the vehicle and veered into a ditch.

The injured victim was taken by family members to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, for specialised treatment, while the families of the deceased claimed their bodies for burial.

Odunsi added that operatives of the FRSC, the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and the Nigeria Police Force were on the scene to carry out rescue operations and clear the road to ensure traffic flow.

Sector Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin warned motorists against night-time speeding and reckless driving, particularly at critical junctions and railway crossings, urging drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits to prevent further loss of lives.
