Tinubu A Pretentious Moralist, Worse Than Military Rulers – Adeleke’s Aide
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Senior Special Assistant on Bureau of Social Services, Mr. Akintunde Bello Sheriff, has accused President Bola Tinubu of undermining Nigeria’s democracy and running the country like a family business with his son, Seyi Tinubu.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Sheriff said the Tinubu administration is worse than past military regimes, alleging deliberate constitutional violations and political interference in state governance.
“Bola Tinubu is a pretentious moralist and pseudo democrat. Everything he accused Obasanjo of, he has demonstrated to be worse off,” Sheriff wrote.
He faulted the President for allegedly authorising illegal local government elections in Lagos despite a Supreme Court ruling, and for directing public funds in Osun State into private pockets of party loyalists already sacked by the courts.
Sheriff stated, “The Supreme Court dissolved LCDAs yet elections were conducted into LCDAs at his backyard in Lagos.
“Yet the toothless AGF said nothing and did nothing in the face of the constitutional override.
“Come down to Osun State, the same Tinubu has allegedly authorised payment of public funds into private pockets of his party members who have since been sacked from the courts.
“To imagine that this brazen action happened during the pendency of subject litigation before the Supreme Court of Nigeria makes it alarming. In the belief of an average Nigerian Tinubu is an anathema to Democracy.”
He also criticised the growing influence of Seyi Tinubu in state matters.
The governor’s aide wrote, “Obasanjo was President. Late Yaradua was President. Jonathan was President. Late Buhari was President and they all are not barren.
“Non really abdicated state powers to their Sons. Seyi Tinubu follows his Father everywhere almost on all official missions and you will wonder if we are running family governance in the Country.
“There was a time the President’s Son was even seen at the Federal Executive Council chamber where the FEC was holding a meeting. Unarguably; Tinubu has taken democratic gains in Nigeria downwardly. The military was nicer sadly.”
OSUN DEFENDER reports that Governor Adeleke and the Presidency have been at loggerheads in recent months over control of local government structures, withheld allocations, and alleged political interference.
In August, Adeleke accused Tinubu’s government of deliberately frustrating his administration through funding blockades, a claim dismissed by the Osun APC, which insisted that the suspension of local government funds was due to court orders.
Despite the tensions, Adeleke and the Osun PDP endorsed Tinubu for reelection in July 2025, believing that doing so would lead to the release of the withheld local government allocations.
In addition, the governor had earlier in the year made moves to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that was flatly rejected by the party’s leadership in the state.
