President Bola Tinubu has appointed Jamiu Abiola as the Senior Special Assistant on Linguistics and Foreign Affairs, effective November 14, 2024.
Jamiu, son of the late Chief Moshood Abiola, who was the presumed winner of the annulled 1993 presidential election, previously held the position of Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties in the Office of the Vice President.
In an official statement released on Wednesday by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the appointment was confirmed.
The statement also noted that the appointment complies with the provisions of Certain Political and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act of 2008, as amended.

Imohiosen stated: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Jamiu Abiola as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Linguistics and Foreign Matters.
“The appointment takes effect from 14th November, 2024. This is in line with the provisions of the Certain Political and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act 2008, as amended.”
Highlighting Abiola’s previous role, the statement added, “Until his appointment, Jami’u served as the Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties in the Office of the Vice President.”
In his new role, President Tinubu has tasked Jamiu Abiola with working closely with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, encouraging him to leverage his expertise to excel in his new responsibilities.
