President Bola Tinubu has ordered a thorough investigation into the brutal killing of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in the Chiranci community of Kano State.

In a statement on Monday, his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the attack as barbaric and extended the President’s condolences to the grieving family.

“The President condemned the action as barbaric and condoled with the bereaved family over the tragedy,” the statement read.

Tinubu also praised the police for the swift arrest of the main suspects and directed security agencies to ensure diligent prosecution.

“The President commended the police for the swift arrest of the principal suspects and ordered the investigation and diligent prosecution of the suspects,” the statement added.

He assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that such acts of violence would not be tolerated.

OSUN DEFENDER had reported that seven people, including 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar and her six children, were killed on Saturday in Dorayi Chiranci Quarters.

The victims were reportedly attacked at their residence by suspected hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons.

Confirming the incident, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on January 17 regarding an attack on the household of Haruna Bashir.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, immediately dispatched a team of officers led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani, to the scene.

The victims were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were pronounced dead.

Investigations are ongoing, and the Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killings.

The arrests followed intelligence-led operations between the night of January 17 and early January 18, conducted under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and supervision of CP Bakori.

“The Kano State Police Command, leveraging intelligence-led policing, has successfully arrested three principal suspects behind the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters,” Kiyawa said.
