Today’s attack on members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who belong to The Osun Progressives (TOP) caucus of the party makes it the sixth brutal sponsored by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s government to intimidate members of the party.
Two members of the APC, Adedapo Atobatele and Ismail Akinyede were directly shot by hoodlums, allegedly led by a notorious thug, Asiri Eniba at the State Congress of the party held at Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo.
Atobatele and Akinyede were shot at the leg and hand. The thugs invaded the premises of the State Congress venue with about eight vehicles. Some of them had lurked around in a street behind the venue. They started shooting in an attempt to disrupt the congress. But the officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps repelled the attack and chased the hoodlums away.
The attack is unprovoked and it shows the desperation of Oyetola to lord himself on members of the party. It is also a reflection of the weakness of his political structure to withstand pressure which are part and parcel of politicking, our Governor would rather resort bloodletting.
A discerning mind will see the deceit by which Oyetola’s government has been handling the simple call for the rejuvenation of APC with the regularity of attacks on The Osun Progressives (TOP) members.
It would be recalled that the Oyetola government had maliciously arraigned seven leaders of TOP at an Osogbo Magistrate Court when in actual fact, they were the one who sponsored thugs to attack members of the party who came to submit petition to the Ward Congress Appeal Committee.
We note the partiality of some security agencies in Osun as they keep looking the other way whenever attack is carried out on the TOP Members. We know that they are acting the script of Oyetola.
We call again, as patriotic members of APC, on President Muhammadu Buhari and National Caretaker Committee of the party to intervene in the Osun APC matter. The national heads of security agencies also need to curb the growing violence by the Oyetola led government thugs.
