1. LG Crisis: Egbetokun Planning To Assassinate Gov Adeleke – PDP Alleges

The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has alleged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of planning to assassinate the governor of the state, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The PDP said the IGP’s deliberate deployment of Special Forces to escort the sacked APC chairmen into local government secretariats on Wednesday morning was a coup and disobedience to the order of the state governor.

2. Sacked APC LG Chairmen, Councillors Resume In 14 Osun Councils

Three days to the scheduled February 22 local government elections, the All Progressives Congress chairmen and councillors elected in the October 15, 2022, election in Osun State have resumed in about 14 LGA secretariats across the state, OSUN DEFENDER reports.

This is despite the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission’s (OSSIEC) finalizing preparations for Saturday’s polls.

3. Lagos Assembly Denies Alleged Defection Of 27 Members To Labour Party

The Lagos State House of Assembly has denied reports that 27 of its members are planning to defect from the ruling party to the Labour Party, describing the claim as false and misleading.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Hon. (Otunba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, the Assembly said, “This publication is entirely false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.”

4. Obasa Family Denounces Impeached Lagos Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru

The Obasa family of the Ikemo Ruling of Ojo town in Ojo local government area of Lagos State has denounced any ties with the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

Obasa was impeached on January 13 while he was away from the country by more than two-thirds of the 40-member legislative house over alleged misconduct and sundry offences.

5. Nigeria To Receive Looted 119 Benin Bronzes From Netherlands

The Netherlands has agreed to return 119 Benin Bronzes to Nigeria, with the official transfer agreement set to be signed on Wednesday by Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science, Eppo Bruins, and the Director-General of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, Olugbile Holloway.

According to a statement from the Dutch embassy, the artefacts, which are from the Dutch State Collection and the Municipality of Rotterdam, are expected to arrive in Nigeria later this year.

6. State Assembly Approves Death Penalty For Kidnappers

The Edo State House of Assembly has passed a bill amending the Kidnapping Prohibition Amendment Law of 2013 and addressing related matters during its second reading.

Following the review by the Committee of the Whole, the bill prescribes the death penalty for kidnappers and mandates the confiscation and demolition of properties used in the commission of kidnapping.
