THE Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun Command, Mr. Sunday Agboola, has reiterated that traditional rulers have vital roles to play in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
According to Agboola, the traditional rulers are in the best position to enlighten their subjects on the need to always provide actionable intelligence to security agencies in their communities.
Agboola stated this on Wednesday during a familiarisation visit to the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Dr. Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran.
The Commandant also visited the Elegboro of Ijebu-IJesa, Oba Oluwafemi Agunsoye Abikehin, the Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Oba Akeem Olusayo Ogungbangbe and Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Afolabi during his familiarization tour.
Agboola said the visits became imperative considering the crucial roles traditional rulers play in tackling crime and criminality in their different communities.
He said: “The corps has enjoyed a robust relationship with traditional rulers and we are ready to work extra hard to bring insecurity to the barest minimum in Osun State.
“Security personnel need information on suspicious movement in your community, as this will help nip crime in the bud.”
In their respective responses, the traditional rulers said they were delighted to receive the State Commandant, disclosing that the NSCDC personnel in their communities have been discharging their duties with every sense of professionalism.
The royal fathers also disclosed that they were aware of the needs of the corps in terms of logistics, just as they promised to contribute their quota in order to effectively fight insecurity in Ijesaland.
