Traffic Disrupted In Osogbo As Olaiya Bridge Height Barrier Collapses For Fifth Time In Four Months
There was panic and disruption in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Thursday evening after the height restriction barrier installed at the Olaiya Flyover Bridge collapsed yet again, marking the fifth such incident in four months.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the barrier, which was designed to restrict the movement of heavy-duty vehicles over the flyover, was seen lying across the road, obstructing traffic and causing confusion among motorists and commuters.
In a video that surfaced online and was widely circulated on social media, the collapsed barrier was captured sprawled across the road, with several vehicles forced to divert or make abrupt stops to avoid damage.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as “an embarrassment” and expressed frustration over the continued failure of the structure, despite repeated efforts by the state government to reinforce it.
Residents are now calling on the state government to not only review the structural integrity of the barrier but also to reconsider its design, which they say appears ill-suited to withstand the pressure of daily road use.
The Olaiya Flyover, commissioned in 2022, has since been a major transit route in the state capital, and any obstruction often leads to significant delays across major parts of the city.he city.
